How to Coordinate a Kimono: Fall Awase Kimono November 2007
* Click images to enlarge

I try to wear a kimono once a month to keep in practice. It is now long past the time to wear a yukata and I missed the chance to wear a single-layer fall hito-e kimono (appropriate for September and early October) for a moon-viewing because I was in the USA at the time. I have also been extremely busy with classes this semester since my Art History class grew from 37 to 80 students. That will teach me to be nice, I won’t do that again. Anyway, I am having kimono withdrawal symptoms and must get out soon in kimono. If it doesn’t rain this weekend, I plan to wear kimono and go see a chrysanthemum showing. (See Japan Times for Events).

Since I don’t wear kimono that often, I prefer not wear the exact same coordination twice in a row, although often do out of necessity. I wore this light purple awase (lined kimono) last April that has a komon (all-over pattern) of flower arabesque. With it I wore an off-white Nagoya obi with a Japanese Gosho doll design. It was a very attractive combination, even if I say so myself.

But this time, I want to wear something different and more fall-ish. So I decided to wear a black Nagoya obi with machine-embroidered Japanese Mari balls. I will wear the same light-purple bunny design Chirimen crepe obi-age sash as last April, but probably with a deeper purple obi-jime cord.

Now if I only had a date to take me to the Chinsanso Gardens at the Four Seasons for dinner to enjoy the autumn leaves. (See Let's Enjoy Tokyo).
