Where and When to See Fall Leaves in Japan, 2008
The next important thing in Japan after Cherry Blossoms, is the fall colors, called Kouyou (紅葉) "crimson leaves" in Japanese.
It's looking like the peak of fall leaves will be late November to early December in Tokyo, and maybe a bit earlier in the Kansai region (Kyoto-Osaka) from around early November.
