I bought a new cell-phone, I mean, camera

Ever get tired of carrying both a digital camera and a cell phone? Why not buy a camera that also functions as a cell phone? So, I did.
Walking on the way to teach at the university one morning, I passed by the AU cell phone shop, and lo-and-behold this darling was on display in the window, and I just had to have it. Now if I can just figure out how to use it.

First Digi-Cam Cell (Original Indigo Camellia Yukata)
I first bought a cell phone in Japan because it was absolutely necessary here for communication, and bought my first one at the Sakura electronics store in Shinjuku. AU was the cheapest of the models I liked. Then I discovered the Navi-Walk, probably called something else then and only available on AU phones at the time. No more mistaking train schedules and missing appointments. The most recent version of Navi-Walk, you can have it search for your GPS present location and feed in the phone number or address of where you want to go, and it will give you a choice of four best routes for where you want to go and when you want to go or arrive there, plus a GPS map if you want to walk or drive. Now I have all my services (cell phone, international calling, local land-phone, internet hook-up) all with KDDI, and save a lot of money through that plan.

Once upon a time, in the far distant past, cell phones did not come with cameras, hard that is to believe now. I remember discussing with a friend when they first came out nearly a decade ago now, whether either of us wanted one. There was definitely a cool factor, ever important when choosing a cell phone in Japan, but the digital pictures where not so great, and I thought the novelty aspect could soon wear off after a while. However, before long I did purchase one for those times when I wanted to take a photo and didn’t have my, then analog, camera with me. Then a better one came out, and then a better one, and then I upgraded to a Sony Ericcson, which takes fairly good photos, well, it is a Sony after all. Then I bought a Sony Ericcson AU Global Passport cell phone I could also use in China and the US. Then I bought this one, which is also a AU Global Passport cell phone, but really a camera that also functions as a cell phone.

Oh, what fun! Once I figure out how to use it, to always have a decent digital camera with me, that I can email from direct, without having to download all the images to my computer first. Have all my pictures together, as except for professional ones for work, so I don’t have to try to remember if I took the darn things with my cell or my camera. Plus, it supposedly downloads easily to the photo-frame picture-thingie Bro gave me for Christmas.
