Are you worried that your first group coaching sessions will turn out dull and boring? Well, you don't have to as long as you take these steps into consideration:
Start the session with an ice-breaker. This is something that I love to do. When you walk into a room with people who don't know each other, it's your job to ensure that they'll get acquainted and that they'll warm up fast. This is the key to ensure that they'll become more receptive and more alert once you start your presentation. Think of a nice ice-breaker that your target audience will enjoy. Choose based on their profile and their preferences. Once I got my clients to do charades with movie title as the theme and they had a blast. There was enough energy throughout the session and that something that really helped me.
Next step is to talk about the agenda of the session. I suggest that you create a list of those topics that you're going to cover and the goals of the session before you meet your clients. Then, talk about this before you start coaching them. Explain each item in a very easy to understand manner. Then, ask your clients if they have anything to add. Then, discuss the goal of the session. For example, you can just say "after this session, you'll be able to write compelling ads for your PPC campaign." By doing so, your clients would know exactly what they can expect to get.
Presentation. Always make use of power point and other visual anchors during your presentation. Giving your attendees something to look at to will actually help them absorb the information you're giving out much faster. This will also help you make your session organized. By using power point for example, you can be assured that you will not forget to discuss some points.
Make it lively. You don't need to sound like an old, boring professor from college otherwise, your attendees will dose of even before you finish half of your power point presentation. Be upbeat all the time. In fact, I would recommend that you make use of your great sense of humor to keep your clients from falling asleep. Also, encourage participation. Ask questions from time to time.
Encourage hands-on practice. There are just some things that other people wouldn't be able to learn through presentation or discussions alone so hands-on practice would be required. For example, if your teaching people how to improve their keyboarding skills, it's imperative that you get them to practice.
End the session with question and answer portion. Ask your clients to save their questions for later so you can focus on your presentation and/or hands-on practice. Before you end the session, address all these questions and ensure that you give the best answers. It's best if you anticipate all the questions that you'll get and that you prepare for them before you meet your clients. Believe me, you don't want to get caught off-guarded.
