衆院議員の秋元司氏が収賄容疑で逮捕された、との記事から。写真は、だいぶ前に東京の留守宅近くに来ていた秋元氏。prosecutor＝検事。東京地検は普通、Tokyo prosecutorsと簡単に済ませる（特に初出）。deal a blow to～＝～に打撃を与える。

「記述式問題」。大学入学共通テストで導入される予定だった国語と数学の記述式問題の実施を見送ることになった、との記事から。something that is open-ended does not have a definite answer or definite rules about how it must be done (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English)。予定されていた記述式とかなりニュアンスが異なる気がする。この記事のリードパラグラフではdescriptive questionsというのを使っていたが、こちらもわかるような、わからないような。

「豚汁」。東京が大好きなシンガポール人新聞記者の記事から。例文はＴＶ番組および映画の「深夜食堂」についての部分。昭和な飲み屋横丁にたたずむお店「めしや」は、営業時間が夜12時から朝7時までで、メニューは豚汁定食、ビール、酒、焼酎のみ━という設定らしい。ingredient＝食材。
