Hi! This is Erika, one of the Foreign Teachers of E.E.A. It’s a little late but I want to greet everyone a Happy New Year! I’m from the Philippines where it’s warm all year round! Given that, experiencing four seasons here in Japan is both a thrilling and challenging experience for me. I like traveling during warmer seasons but during winter, I love to huddle up ina warm blanket and read. Winter seem to trigger my love of reading.
When I was a child, I usually stay in my elementary school library after class and read about anything; from magazines, to encyclopedia or history books. I love reading so much that I was awarded “Book lover of the year” during my 6th grade graduation. My favorite genres are inspirational and fiction but I also often read online articles and news to keep myself updated on current events.
Why do I love reading? Because it fuels our brain. It encourages us to use our imagination to create a world thus, improving our creativity. Reading tickles our curiosity and opens our mind to different point of views. On top ofit all, I love reading because it’s fun! Being a curious person, learning new things is always fun.
As a teacher, I want to share my love of reading to my students. Challenging the kids to try to read in English would broaden their skills so when I learned that we’ll have a reading seminar for our winter seminar, I was delighted. I’m ready to show how fun reading can be! Let’s try to read English books during the seminar. See you there!
