All through summer of 2009, I had been working night and day.  Translation jobs were piling up before my eyes.  There was no escaping from it.  Money was okay, I made more than enough to survive.  People would say, you should be happy to be where you are.  But to be honest, I was so dissatisfied with what I was doing and who I had become.

Being a musician and a translator and a writer at the same time, I tend to place priority in things that bring me money.  That was what I needed for a long time.  But wait, I thought.  If I continue living this way, I will just be another translator in this world.  And as far as I can see, the world already has enough translators, the same goes for writers and musicians.

My mind started wandering.  What can I do?  What am I capable of doing?

So, I was searching for a new project.  I no longer wished to place priority in monetary gain.  I no longer wished for stable translation games.  I searched for where my heart shall stay.

To me, music is no different from sound of city or sound of people’s conversation, trains running, birds singing, trees swinging, ocean waves crashing.  That’s all music to me.  I have the same perspective for writing and anything else that I do, like washing dishes or taking out garbage.  There is life and there is music.  There is always life before music.  I wanted to capture them all in some solid ways.  So I turned to my digital camera and my iPhone and MicroBR, which is a cheap-ass 4 track recorder that runs on batteries.  If there is an idea behind it, it does not have to be presented in the perfect way.  Nothing is ever perfect anyways.  Even if it was captured in the perfect way, limit given by YouTube, the media I chose to use, will not allow such ambition.

10 minutes is the maximum length that can be broadcast on YouTube, so the each clip shall be 10 minutes long.  The total running time of this project shall be 24 hours.  All of these factors were determined within a few seconds.  Keeping all of my works at the same length sounded interesting enough, too.  Like how writers write articles in certain number of words, or painters pick canvas before they start painting.

So there I was with a new project, my 24 hours of videos and music.

I do not know the story that will be told in this project, as I cannot predict the future, I cannot even fully comprehend what I had made so far.  These works are purely accidental.  No scripts, real life, real people, real sound and I play songs that are most suitable for each particular moment.

144 of 10 minutes clip will sum up to be 24 hours.  Once I have 24 hours worth of clips, this will be presented as a single work of mine.  Like an album or a painting or a novel or a movie, or simply a documentary of my life and others who happened to intersect my path.

So this is where my heart is and the journey begins here.
