◆巷の風評


英語本の数があまりにも多いせいで逆に目立たなくなっている感もあるくらい
だが、実は「英語学習の雑誌」というのは結構な種類が出ている。そんな中、
新刊雑誌としてあらわれたのが本書だ。このメルマガでは初めてとなる雑誌
の書評、これからの方向性を読むという視点を加えつつ、既存誌とどの様な
差別化を図っているか楽しみに見てみることにしたい。





◆西沢のホンネカラシ和え


正直なところ、英語学習雑誌というのは個人的にはあまり良いイメージを抱いて
いなかった。長いこと本誌を読んでくださっている読者さんならお分かりかと思う
けど、発行者は単なるイメージやふわふわした中身だけを売るものがあまり好き
ではないところ、英語学習誌のいくつかは、単に外国人のインタビューを載せたり
海外ニュースのうわずみ部分を切り取って「表現」として載せたり、作りが浅いもの
が多いという印象があったからである。

そんな中本誌だが、一読してみて意外と（？）硬派でしっかりした内容になっており
既存の雑誌とはかなりカラーが違う。今回が創刊号なんだけど、いきなり「ペラペラ
願望を捨てよう」とサックリ斬っているあたりどこかのメルマガとよく似ている様な
感じも（笑）。しかし記事を読んでみると、決していい加減な英語学習を推奨している
のでなく、明確な目標設定と学習方法の決定が重要だというホネのある中身になっている。
他の記事を見ても、単に「英語よ、外国よ、ほわわん♪」というものはなく、海外を
相手に活躍する日本人が具体的に苦労した点をアドバイスしてくれる中身になって
いたりと、実用的で地に足のついた構成になっていて読み応えがある。ただ単に
ネイティブの話した事のうわべの部分を書くだけなら雑誌として特に刊行する意義は
薄いのだし、雑誌ならでは、というコンテンツを明確に意識している様子なのが心強く、
今後の展開も楽しみである。

惜しむらくは、タイトル。リンク先を見てみると表紙は「英語YAROO」となっているが、
正式な雑誌名は「英語野郎」になっていて、ネットで検索したりする際には混乱を招く
のではないか。「YAROO」と書くと何か某最大手ポータルの名称をパクっているみたい
だし（笑）、内容が良いのにうさんくさいイメージを招いてしまい損をしていると思う。
「英語ヤロウ」あたりで統一するか、またはこれを副題にして正式な良いタイトルを
決めて欲しいところだ。ちなみに次号は１２月発売。期待しておきたい。



◆英語の勉強には？


英語学習の生きたヒントが動的に得られる。中身の「動かない」英語本に飽きたら
手にとってみると良いだろう。

決して大手の出版社ではないというところが、良い意味で雰囲気に出ている。
編集部の手作りっぽい感じがして読者との距離が近く、親しみが持てるだろう。

★★★　　　…　TOEIC550-700くらいの中級者向け。
★★　　　　 …　英語の実用学習を始めて半年以上くらいの、初級者向け。

　・ノートパソコンを持ち歩いて原稿を書くのが快感になってきている今日この頃。
　　夜遅くまでやってるカフェでちゃかちゃかとキーを叩いているとちょっとした
　　作家気分ですね（＾＾　最近開高健のエッセイを合間に読んでいるので余計に
　　そんな気分に浸ってしまっております♪

　　　
　・先ほどヤフーのニュースを見てたら「ブリ 息子の写真がネット流出」との見出しが。
　　「ハマチか？」とか、オヤジなことを言う気はありませんが（笑）、もうちょっと
　　略し方工夫してくれという感じはしますね。まあ、「モー娘」っていうのも最初の
　　頃は変だなぁと思ってたのですが慣れちゃいましたし慣れるのかもしれませんが。
　　　　　　

　・ラーメンネタの続きになりますが、大阪は道頓堀にあったラーメンテーマパーク、
　　「道頓堀ラーメン大食堂」が閉鎖になっていたと昨日知り、がーん！と結構マジで
　　ショックを受けておりました。入っていたうちの１軒、横浜ラーメンの「六角家」が
　　好きだったのに、もう大阪じゃ食べられないのね…・゜・(ノД`)・゜・　

　　生まれも育ちも関西なのに、たこ焼きよりラーメン好きな私ですが、
　　メルマガ発行者仲間の間では、人それぞれ好みが分かれているようです。

　　・「ドラマで学ぼう！英会話」のあれっくすさん（アメリカ育ち東京在住）は
　　　たこ焼きが大好物。「西沢さん、おかしいっすよ！」
