準備する、覚悟させる

nothing could have prepared me for seeing it face to face


prepareは準備する、覚悟させるという意味の他動詞です。

この場合はnothingが主語となっているので、面と向かって富士山と対面する心の準備

をさせてくれるようなものがなかったという意味です。


それくらい実物でみた富士山はすばらしいという意味になります。

日本で訪れて感動した場所は

Mount Fuji took my breath away.

Although I had seen it countless times on postcards,

posters and brochures, nothing could have prepared me

for seeing it face to face.

On a perfect, clear, sunny day, as it was when I visited,

I think it is the most beautiful sight in Japan.

My next destination is Okinawa.

I can't wait to soak up the sun

and laid-back lifestyle of the southern islands.


富士山を見たときは、ハッとして心を奪われてしまった。

絵葉書やポスターやパンフレットなどで数え切れないほど

富士山をみたけれど、直接この目で見た時は全く違っていた。

私が富士山を訪れたとき、完全に晴れ渡った、良い陽気でした。

それが日本で見た中で一番美しい光景だと思います。

次に私は沖縄に行くの。

太陽の光と南の島でゆっくりとした生活を満喫するのが待ち遠しいです。

どのように夏を楽しみますか

I enjoy hanging out with friends,

having barbecues or picnics in the park.

However, as it's so hot and humid in Tokyo in the summer,

I try not to spend too long in the centre of the city

and prefer to escape to the coast or

explore cooler regions of Japan during this time.





友達とでかけたり、バーベキューをしたり公園へピクニックに

行ったりします。

でも、東京の夏はとても暑くてムシムシしているので、

街中で長い時間を過ごすより、ビーチに出かけたり、

日本の中でも涼しいところをぶらぶらしたりしたほうが好きかな。
