Daruma on a Fuda
During the Edo Period, a pilgrim would take a set of stickers and paste one at each entrance door of a temple or shrine where he visited. Many carried long bamboo poles to stick the sticker high up somewhere on the wood of the gate. Some temples are very famous for these gates covered with white stickers.
