TWO Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS) teams won their first matches at the start of the 5th Davao City Baseball Cup Friday at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina grounds.

The PNJKIS elementary batters scored an overpowering 22-0 victory over F. Bangoy Central Elementary School, 22-0, while its secondary team thrashed Baguio High School of Agriculture Eagles of Tawantawan, 17-5.

In other elementary other games, Buhisan routed Mabini, 11-1, while the Baguio Central School overwhelmed Loyola School, 11-4.

Knockout elimination games were still ongoing as of presstime in the annual event organized by the Datu Uchida Development Foundation (DUDF) in coordination with the Davao City Baseball Association (DCBA).

A total of 22 teams are entered in the two-day meet that offers cash prizes, trophies medals and baseball equipment to the top three teams in each category.

The champion will pocket P8,000 while the runner-up and third-placer will receive P4,000 and P2,000, respectively.
