Producer M.A/ Rapper MOTO ACCE Second album ¡ÈSECOND LINE¡É has been announced.

Following the last project ¡ÈICIN¡É, sound making based on record sampling symbolic to M.A remains. Which, has always been cool and precisely woven, feels as if the gloss and richness of vibe inside the warm sound scape has increased. That I think could be due to the change of equipment and difference in the finishing(mix/mastering), but live instruments Shakuhachi: NUMABARA, Keybord: KUGE-SUN are also deliberately used. Having bare minimal tracks as well as ones sounding more of a current JAPANESE JAZZ HIPHOP feel with inclusion of Japanese traditional instruments, once again bringing M.A¡Çs updated world view with this project for enjoyment.

And the important element of the album to be noted is the structure, with instrumentals and rap songs coming one after another. Scenery inducing Shibui(subtle tastefulness, without being flashy) instrumentals to bluesy solo songs, and appearance of members from BONG BROS gives out the feel of a soundtrack for Kyoto City directed by M.A. Such maneuvers were also interesting, expressing the character of the Rapper/Producer M.A.

Also, the title ¡ÈSECOND LINE¡É probably has meanings like the 2nd solo project and many other. But, in music, second line is a playing style born in NEW ORLEANS, LUISIANA of Southern USA with a brass band where the syncopated grooves are amazing(¨¡ÉGRIS GRIS ~Devil in Orange~¡É is a dance track with straight second line brass band!). Seems to be that this New Orleans is the hidden theme with references appearing in lyrics and sample sources throughout. To be honest, I got into it from FUNK and likes of New Orleans such as Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, The Meters, etc, showing New Orleans¡Ç records to each other with M.A. So, I was definitely excited. Still, thinking of the reason as to why the South that is New Orleans is being the focus; it being the city of origin for JAZZ, it¡Çs comfy sound qualities also has connections, but what struck me the most is probably the groove of syncopated beats. Rhythm of New Orleans has its original syncopations. There is a theory stating 50¡Çs ~ 60¡Çs American Southern radios could barely reach the Mexican gulf and the Caribbeans. So, the attempts to figure out the deteriorated sounds, interpreting it in their own style evolved into the Jamaican SKA and ROCK STEADY. Got bit sidetracked, but M.A also weaves an extremely live feeling beat despite it being a programming by use of precise sequence and syncopated beats. All in all, I believe there was a connection between New Orleans music and M.A¡Çs beats. Such playfulness and realism co-existing, made by broiling music from various countries, would highly recommend tasting the gumbo by M.A.
