TOKYO FILMeX 5

I went to Yurakucho Asahi Hall to see a film "Non-ko (literary
translation: Non-ko 36years olds domestic help(ノン子36歳
(家事手伝い))", which was the one of the programs for a
film festival, "TOKYO FILMeX" yesterday.

Since guest IDs have been issued to me for Tokyo International
Film Festival and Tokyo FILMeX(big shot here), I was able to
see all films in those festivals for free. My seat was a
reserved seat and, at this time, Mr. Donald Richie was sitting
on my left.

Mr. Richie is a great person who introduced Japanese cinema to
the world after WW. Director Syusuke Kaneko and I had been
invited a dinner from him as Director Kaneko's film "Summer
Vacation 1999" was played at the Foreign Correspondents'
Club of Japan 20 years ago. Of course, I thought if I brought
up this story, it would confuse him. So I decided not to
mention it. Since he was famous, lots of people came to
greet him. There were several foreign people whom I must have
seen somewhere before, but I couldn't remember their names.
A Japanese elderly lady came to him saying "I'm Non-ko".
She was Ms. Teruyo Nogami from Kurosawa production. She
gave a thick brown envelope to Mr. Richie. She was asked,
"What? Is this food?", but she just returned to her seat.
As it was opened, there was a DVD, "Our Mother (かあべえ)".
"Our Mother (かあべえ)" was Ms. Nogami's autobiography. By the
way a film "Non-ko" has nothing to do with Ms. Nogami. Just
in case.
Good luck, Director Kumakiri.

Whenever I go to this kind of film festival, it's fun to be
able to meet people whom I rarely see. Yesterday, as I was
leaving someone called out, "Mr. Takama!" As I looked back,
I saw Ms. Kumiko Hoshi. She used to do management work for
Mr. Kei Horie. She was gorgeously beautiful. She was a former
actress, indeed.

As I went to Tokyo International Film Festival, I met a
recording engineer, Mr. Yamagata whom I worked with for a
shooting of "Wildlife". He's very familiar with Chinese film.
He introduced me Ms. Michelle Mi who was a female producer
for a film called "Cherries". Ms. Mi will have a project which
she might produce or direct next autumn. She asked me if we
could work together. I'm happy if this kind of encounter
results in a project.

For today, I ended up doing some extra work for Director
Kaneko's film "Pride". I shot Promotional Video for the film's
theme song at a small studio in Kita-shinjyuku. As it's been
a while since I last heard them, I enjoyed listening to a duet
by Stephanie and Hikari Mitsushima again.
Stephanie had to go to a photo shoot for "Shukan Gendai" after
this session. Director Kaneko, Hikari, and I went to the area
around Okubo to eat a dinner. In fact I was thinking of going
to Tokyo FILMeX, but since Director Kaneko offered a dinner,
I gave in to the temptation of grilled beef.
