Illegal Stay in Prague

Dear all

I and Yu came from Krakow to Prague, historical capital in not only Czech Republic but also Central Europe.
However, how to enter this country was nothing but illegal: we broke the rule to pass the border!
In detail, we got on the overnight train in Krakow head for Prague, so the immigration officer on the side of Czech have to stamp on our passports according to the international regulation in reference to the usual cross-border travel. but, as a matter of fact, they did never ever give us the stamps and then we fell asleep during this trip to Prague...so we mean we are in here without any certificate staying in Prague abiding by the rule.
Off course, we went to the embassy of Japan in Czech to cope with this unusual stay, but nobody told us what to overcome the problem and all we can do is to keep the train ticket, hostel receipt and like that to make our stay here "de facto"! Now the only thing we can is we just keep our fingers crossed I leave here to Japan day after tomorrow and Yu goes across the border between Czech and Slovak tommorrow!!

Take care

Keep in touch,

Last day in Poland, Oswiecim(Auschwitz)

Dear all

Yesterday I met Yu who came from Lithuania without any trouble.
Then we visited in Oswiecim (Aucshwitz in Polish) this morning.
it was not as shocking as we expected because there are many house and buildings around this muzeum.
Anyway, we looked around with Israeli students a number of chambers where soviet POWs, jews and a lot of mationalities were deported in this notorious concentration camp.
Before going there, Yu was very worried about the exhibitions in reference to the infamous event in WW2: she wondered if she could not stand it and was fainted by shocking photos.
The result is...she could do face with this event and somehow accepeted it.
I hope all of people should think of this cruel and reckless history.

As a former German presiden announced, "those who do not face with the history are bound to live in it again."

Mitsushiro & Yu

PS
Tonight we will head for Prague by former-socialist-state overnight train, i keep my finger crossed that we will be there tomorrow morning!

Ukrainian

Dear all

Instead of going to Ukraine, I met Ukrainian guy in the Youth Hostel by chance.
He is Victor Sautin, 23 years old and is studying history of central Europe in Charles University in Prague.
He is now coming to Krakow to look up the literature in reference to the third division of Poland by Russia, Prussia and Austria Hapsburg in the end of 18th century in the library: and he copied number of piece of paper, this reminds me of making graduation thesis a few month ago...
We talked about Ukrainian history, religion, John Paul 2,former USSR, Putin, Yuschenko's orange revolution and like that, drinking Czech piwo(beer).
He said that Ukraine is the original Russia, and the Moscovia adopted the concept of Russia to unite all the people where it occupied as one national citizen under the Czar. In central Europe, historical conflict, prejudice, and discrimination are still living , and growing, among the people, so he would like to work with the ministry of Education in Ukraine after graduating from the school. he has a dream to teach young people in Ukraine about the history, which may result in the peace and cooperation with neighbors.
I do not know whether working for the purpose of money is good or bad...money is just money, which is not creating anything to us, it is just tool to live. Now i do not have ability to save one beggar with baby in front of church from death...I have a purpose to work now, but it is impossible to keep on working with the purpose as incentive in my life...someday, i hope that i will work for the humankind, after getting enough knowledge to do so: it's gonna be alright for me that people regard me as a crazy big mouth. i do not take care what they say, it is my matter. Cogito, ergo sum.

Take care and bon voyage.

Lady with an Ermine and Jewish Ghetto

Dear all

Unfortunately, all the international train bound for Ukraine are suspended by heavy snow in the border...i could do nothing but give up going there. i hope next time come.

Instead of Ukraine, i visited in the Czartoryski museum again, this is third time in my trip.
the reason is two masterpieces: "Lady with an Ermine" by Leonardo da Vinci and "Landscape with the Good Samaritan" by Rembrandt.

In reference to Rembrandt, i prefer "The Night Watch" or "Doctor Nicolaes Tulp's Demonstration of the Anatomy of the Arm", because on this landscape does not have motion and reality.
On the other hand, da Vinci's lady is so beautiful and has mysterious and sad feeling in her eyes. i think it looks much feminine and shows stronger masculine atmosphere than Mona liza in Musée du Louvre. as soon as i stand in front of her, i am stunned like thunder and is likely to communicate with the prudent lady who may know what i think...this is not joking, true for real.

And then, today, i will go to the former Jewish ghetto, Kazimierz, where was second largest ghetto in europe and more than 90 % of them were killed by the Nazis in WW2.
Before visiting Oswiencim (Auschwitz in Polish)a few days later, i would like to see the real life of Jews who were killed in the history. In there are many synagogues, graveyards and Jewish themselves now. Do you know the 6 Oscar winner movie, "Schindler's List"? This movie is based on the true story in this Kazimerz, in south east of which the factory in which Mr. Schindler employed many Jews to save them from the Holocaust still remains.
The famous and infamous history is living here with people and never escape from this notorious event. The only thing we have to do is to touch the history by our hands to learn from them.

Take care.

Keep in touch.

Jasna Gora Sanctuary in Czestochowa

It is snowing like blizzard today, temperature is now 8 degrees below zero( i miss the world higher than zero, if here were Sao Paulo...), but i visited in Jasna Gora Sanctuary in Czestochowa, where it takes 2 hours from Krakow by train.

In Czestochowa, industrial city of 300,000 northwest from Krakow, The Jasna Gora (Bright Mount in Polish) sanctuary, small 15th-century Gothic chapel, is the most important and holiest place for Polish like Rome for Roman Catholic and one of the destinations for pilgrims. Every year several million pilgrims come here to pray before the miraculous icon of Black Madonna.

Even former Pope John Paul 2, who was born in the town near from Krakow, prayed for Black Madonna in 1999.
Why is this icon so miraculous and attracting Polish to pray for long long time?

According to the guidebook:
A picture of the Black Madonna is holding the Christ child Jesus. Her face is scarred where it had been damaged during the war against Chingis Khan's Mongols. This scar is expressing the resistance of Polish against any invaders and the holy mark of Christianity.
The existence of Poland has been threatened time after time; the Mongols, the Turks, Swedes, Russians, and Germans have tried to consume the nation, but the Church and their faith in Christ has always fought against them. Czarist Russia, Persia and Austria divided up Poland in the 18th Century and Poland disappeared from the maps of Europe for 125 years, but the Church did not die. It kept alive Poland's sense of nationhood; Poland was bathed in blood during World War II, millions were killed in the infamous Oswiencim (Auschwitz in Polish) concentration camp, yet the nation, their faith, and the Church survived. Since World War II Poland has had a Marxist-Leninist government, yet the Church is alive, vibrant and growing.
And everytime a picture of the Black Madonna led the Polish to win.

Anyway, even young student having exam come to this place to pray for pass it.
It is like Yushima Tenjin in Japan, haha.
Polish are very proud of former Pope and, if I tell them i know the Pope, they are very happy with peaceful smile.
I can not experience such a smile in Japan, where most of people are atheist.

Take care.

Keep in touch.

Japanese Immigrants to South America

(Genzai amarinimo kionga takakute NetCafe ni hinanchu-)

It was Sunday when I came to Sao Paulo first.
On Sunday Sao Paulo, many stalls(Yatai in Japanese) are ranging in parks and plazas.
One of them, held at Liberdage, was just like Japanese `Ennichi`. I could find many Japanese meals such as Yakisoba-Oobanyaki-Takoyaki-... ,and many Japanese immigrants working in stalls who can speak both Portuguese and Japanese.

Then I've come to consider their existence. I visited Japanese Immigrant Memorial, and many shops operated by Japanese immigrants. Since they harmonize splendidly in Brasilian culture, I never felt the sense of incompatibility.

But as I was before, few Japanese people know their lives and histories. Brasil is geographically too far to unconsciously learn their existence.

It was 1908 when first Japanese immigrants went to Brasil. Due to the lack of the workers in the farms, Brasilian government had been willing to accept many field hands from overseas. They worked so hard in the severe environment, and gradually became independent as landed farmers. They introduced the technologies, agricultural goods, and the systems that were developed in Japan one after another, and strengthened the power in Brazilian society.
But along with the outbreak of WW2, they also faced the great difficulty.
Japanse ecucation was prohibited. The disharmony between the group which acknowledged Japanese defeat and the other which believed Japanese victory is very sad history .
Through these such painful experiences, they threw away the dream of returning to Japan, and determined to live as a brazilian.
When Japan entered into the age of the high economic growth period, a lot of Japansese companies opened their businesses in Brasil. Then they have great roles in advancing.
........ (Mou Eigo murimuri....)

At present there are about 1.3 milions Japanese( including immigrant descendant) in Brasil, 10 thousands in Paraguay.

I think meeting the Japanese who live in South America was a good chance for me to know more about Japan.

Bar Grodzki

Dear all

Today i could meet first Japanese, let alone Asian, backpacker in Krakow, when i waited for sending air mail to Yuya san and my girlfriend.
He is now traveling from Vladivostok to Wien.
He took me the Polish traditional restaurant, which name is Bar in Polish.
As Shimpei knows, eating wiht newcomer in foreign soil is very good experience.
But he's already got on the train to Budapest, so i am now alone again.

i think backpacker is almost traveling with loneliness, not using mobile phone, PC and TV.
Loneliness makes me strong.
Now i feel i am not staying here but living here as a local resident, haha.

Take care.

Porto Alegre, Brasil

I'm writing with my eyes watching TV which shows THE CARNIVAL OF RIO. It seems a great number of pepole are dancing, I can feel the heat of Rio from the 1500 KM south, Porto Alegre, the Southern central city Brasil.

Contraly to Rio, however, the city of Porto Alegre has been completely sleeping.
Neither offices nor shops are opened, so I have much troble in getting something need, even for eating.

Brasil is now on holiday called CARNIVAL since 25th. Today is the last day.
I didn't know about the city sleeping, so I'm really dissapointed.

As you know if you tried to walk around the place where nobody exists, it would be the same as saying `Attack me`. But here in sleeping Porto Alegre I have no choice but to be involved with the danger situation . Almost people I can find are homeless man, and all of them look like violent gangstars for me.
Sometimes they are walking with me and say something. Of cource I've completly ignored them, but what a troublesome the sleeping city is!!

Anyway I'll take care.

I now am in Krakow, southern east city of Poland.
if Warsaw was Tokyo, here should be like Kyoto in Japan.
all the town is registerd as UNESCO wourld heritage. it is amaging, beautiful and cold, yes, literally cold.

I arrived at here early morning yesterday and stay in "private room" where is located in quiet town 15 minutes away from central market square on foot.

The story about travel from Japan to Krakow and why i selected this room was absolutely exhausted and long. i couldnt sleep for 43 hours, definitely terrible.

Do you know the system of Private Room?
This means that, those who have empty room in their houses, they lend this room to backpackers in cheaper price than other hotels. i pay 17 US dollar per night and will stay at the room of the house where one middle age lady who can speak English very well and her parents who can speak Russian and, a little though, Deutsche. she said she learnt English by herself and is very nice and advise me of how to hang around Krakow. Her parents are also very polite. i think her father is disabled in his leg by fight of europian front of WW2. there is cheap super market nearby and always buy something. Don't you ask me why i go to polish restaurant? but i think " Syokuji ha minna de taberu kara tanoshii."
Now i am alone so i buy something at the supermarket.
The only thing I complain about this house is that shower in the bathroom is not good, even though outside is 10 degrees below zero, so today, coming back the room, i will tell her how to strengthen the water pressure of this shower.

i would like to meet other foreign tourists to talk. To my surprise, i met only one Japanese who have been studying in Krakow to become architect. there is no Asian tourist in the famous spots of Krakow.

So i will stay at this room until March 5 and will go to Lviv, western old city of Ukraine and central place of Ukrainian Cathoric Orange Revolution, it is like Rome for Roman Cathoric.

and at alast, for emergency, i type the address of the room i am staying.
it is as below.
Konarskiego 13/4, Krakow.
Tel 012-423-311-91

so evrybody, enjoy your travel and take care.
Keep in touch.
