大学受験生の英語の個人レッスンに使っているテキストの一つはNHKラジオの「ニュースで学ぶ現代英語」の英語ニュース。
今回はローマ・カトリック教会のフランシスコ教皇が、厳粛な葬儀のあとで埋葬され、教皇に最後の別れを告げようと、バチカンには信者や各国の首脳、海外の要人らが集まったという2025年4月26日のニュース。
POPE FRANCIS MOURNED IN FUNERAL MASS
Pope Francis has been laid to rest after a solemn funeral. Followers, world leaders, and foreign dignitaries gathered at the Vatican to bid him a final farewell.
The pontiff's funeral mass started Saturday morning at St. Peter's Square. The Vatican says over 250,000 mourners converged on and around the area. It says about 160 foreign delegations, including heads of state, attended the funeral.
World leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and French President Emmanuel Macron, offered their prayers in front of the pope's coffin before appearing at the square.
After the mass, the pope's body was taken to his final resting place. Many people paid their respects on the roadside. The pontiff was laid to rest at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome in accordance with his will. That's unlike many of his predecessors, who were buried at St. Peter's Basilica. The pope asked that his tomb be “simple.”

その後、ボナコーベン医師と将軍が部屋に入って来る。
アンの治療をして三人は部屋から退出する。

�� 英語の表現
今回の場面で伯爵夫人がボナコーベン先生を呼びに行くのに二つの異なった表現を使っている。
・I'll send for Doctor Bonnachoven.
・I'll get Doctor Bonnachoven
最初のsend forは「〜を自分の居場所に来させるために人を使いに出す」であり、
二つ目のgetは「自分が行って連れてくる」ということ。
実際、伯爵夫人はI'll get Doctor Bonnachoven（ボナコーベン先生を呼んで来ます）と言って、アンを残して部屋を出て行く。
・ドクターのセリフのit may take a little time to take hold（注射が効いてくるまでには少し時間がかかります）について。
take holdは「（薬が）効く」の意でtake effectと同じ。
�� 興奮したアン王女に対し、伯爵夫人はついにこう言う。

このように呼び捨てにしている。
この言葉から伯爵夫人がアン王女が幼いころからの世話係、教育係であったことがうかがわれる。

�� 怖い医者
興奮したアン王女を鎮めるため御付きの伯爵夫人がボナコーベン医師を呼んでくる。
ドクターは王女の額に手を当て、それから体温計を王女の口に入れる。
脇の下にはさむべき体温計をこともあろうに口にくわえさせるとは
（何と不衛生な！）
と、テレビの洋画劇場で初めてこの映画を観た私は思ったものだ。
現在の電子体温計が現れる前は水銀体温計だった。
何かのはずみで口に入れた体温計をかじってしまうと水銀を飲み込みかねず、危険ではないかとも思った。
ところが調べてみると欧米ではこのくわえ方式が一般的であったようだ。
しかし、少なくとも私の家族は言うに及ばず、病院でも体温計を口にくわえている人を見たことは今まで一度もない。
ヘプバーンの髪形やファッションに大きな影響を受けた当時の女たちも、この体温計を口で測る真似だけはしなかっただろうと思う。
さてこのシーンの後で、再び興奮したアン王女にドクターは睡眠と安静の効果のある注射を打つ。そこに立ち会ったのはアン王女のヨーロッパ親善旅行に同行している将軍。彼は注射嫌いの様で、アン王女が注射されるのを横目で見ていたがついに失神してしまう。
高位の軍人でありながら注射が怖いというこのアンバランスが面白い。
アン王女も面白かったらしく、失神した将軍を見て「アハッ」と思わず笑い声をあげる。
将軍を演じたトゥッリオ・カルミナーティはクロアチア出身のイタリア人俳優。幅広い役柄をこなし、チャールトン・ヘストン主演の「エル・シド」には神父役で出ている。
ちなみにこの時アンが打った注射が、この後、共和国広場で彼女が眠るシーンの布石になっている。
さて、このドクターはやさしく紳士的だが、医師が登場する怖い映画と言うと、イギリスの名優ローレンス・オリヴィエがナチス残党の歯科医を演じた「マラソンマン」がある。
主役である大学院生のベン（ダスティン・ホフマン）に自白させるため拷問にかけるがその拷問が怖いのなんの。見ているこちらが鳥肌を生じたほどだ。
なにしろ麻酔なして歯科医が使うドリルで歯を削るのだ。あのキーンと言う音は誰にもなじみがあるだけに、見ているだけで体が硬直し、自分が拷問にあっているような気がしたものだ。
もしあの将軍がこの拷問を見たら、失神では済まなかったかもしれない。

今回は日本のスタートアップ企業が、人工多能性幹細胞（ｉＰＳ細胞）から作った心筋細胞シートについて、政府に製造・販売の承認申請を行ったと明らかにしたという2025年4月9日のニュース。

Good news could be on the way for heart disease sufferers. A startup firm in Japan says it's applied for government approval to produce and sell sheets of heart muscle cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells. The company says if approved, it would be the world's first authorized treatment using the Nobel Prize-winning technology.
The startup called Cuorips began at Osaka University and has been working to develop cardiomyocyte sheets. These are processed sheets 0.1 millimeters thick that consist of heart muscle cells prepared from iPS cells.
Researchers say they conducted clinical trials to transplant the sheets into the hearts of eight patients with serious heart disease. They say symptoms such as fatigue and palpitations became less severe in all the patients. Cardiac function data also showed improvements in more than half of them. They say no serious side effects have been observed.

夫に愛想を尽かして妻が出ていった家で、ダスティン・ホフマン演じる夫が登校前の息子にフレンチトーストを作ってやるドタバタシーン。
シンプルな食べ物ほど個々人のこだわりは強く、これは洋の東西を問わないということがこの場面で分かった。
食べ方へのこだわりと言えば納豆などはその代表と言え、添付のたれを使うか、古来の伝統を守って醤油にするか、辛子を入れるか入れないか、はてはかきまぜ方についても時計回りを正統とし途中での逆回転は糸引きに影響するとしてこれを禁じている人もいた。かき混ぜる回数を厳格に守る人もいた。
食べ方も納豆と飯を最初にごちゃ混ぜにする人もいれば、飯の上に均等に広げ端から垂直露天掘り方式で端正に食べる人など、様々なタイプをこれまで様々な場所で見て来た。
3：私が沼津市に住んでいた時、知り合いに美食家で知られる医師がいた。
沼津港では魚市場で働く人たちの為に早朝から食べ物屋が店を開けていた。
その医師は自らミニコミ誌を発行しており、そこに食のエッセイを連載していた。
ある号のエッセイのタイトルは「朝の寿司」だった。
朝、沼津港で競り落とされたばかりの新鮮な魚介を、市場内のすし屋で早朝に、酒と共につまむ醍醐味が綴られていた。
それを読んだ20代だった私はロッキーの生卵ほどではないにせよかなりウエッとなった。
「朝から生魚！」
しかしそれから20年後、沼津を去る頃には朝から寿司、刺身をごく通常の顔つきで食べられる域に達した。港町沼津に暮らし、早朝の魚市場での食事に親しんだおかげで朝から天丼もいけるようになったし、カツ丼も朝から絶好調で胃袋に収まるようになった。午前二時ごろから仕事をしている魚市場の人は一仕事終えた朝食にヘビー級の食べ物をとる人が多く、朱に交わった私は赤く染まったのだ。
胃袋が大きくなった代償としてヘプバーンがティファニーのショーウインドーの前で立ったまま口にしたコーヒーとクロワッサンなどは鶏の餌ぐらいにしか思えなくなった。

今回は韓国の憲法裁判所はユン・ソンニョル大統領の弾劾を（妥当と）支持し、これによってユン大統領は正式に罷免されたという2025年4月4日のニュース。
S. KOREA COURT UPHOLDS PRESIDENT YOON'S IMPEACHMENT
South Korea's Constitutional Court has upheld President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment, formally removing him from office. The decision comes about four months after he briefly declared martial law.
The court handed down its unanimous ruling Friday morning. Yoon had already been suspended from presidential duties after the National Assembly voted last year to impeach him.
Yoon has released a statement to his supporters, saying, “I am so sorry and regretful that I could not live up to your expectations.”
Opposition supporters held a rally near the court. They burst out in joy when the ruling came out. Yoon's supporters at a rally in front of the presidential office were disappointed and shocked, some even cried.

このアン王女の「それもパジャマの上だけで。…何も着ないで寝る人がいるのをご存じ？」というセリフの背後に私は「ひょっとしてモンロー…」と思った。
「ローマの休日」のオリジナル脚本を書いたのはダルトン・トランボ。
この映画の制作が進行していた1950年代の初頭はマッカーシズムと呼ばれる共産主義者排斥運動が映画の都ハリウッドにも吹き荒れていた。
ダルトン・トランボは左翼主義者であるとの理由で当局のブラックリストに載せられ、ハリウッドから追放状態にあった。
発表の場を奪われたトランボは友人のイアン・マクラレン・ハンターの名前を借りて「ローマの休日」のオリジナルシナリオを発表し、それをハリウッドが買ったことで「ローマの休日」が陽の目を見ることになった。
私は上記のセリフはトランボがマリリン・モンローのインタビューにヒントを得たのではないかと思ったのだ。
果たしてそうだった。
1952年、当時人気の絶頂にあったモンローは記者のインタビューに次のように答えている影像があった。
「何を着て寝ていますか？ パジャマ？ パジャマの上だけ？ ネグリジェ？そう聞かれたの。 だからシャネルの五番と答えたの。 本当のことだから。 裸でなんて言えないでしょう。でも…本当なの」
インタビューのモンローの言葉「パジャマトップ?」 はアンのセリフの「それもパジャマの上だけで」というセリフに、そして「裸でなんて言えないでしょう」 は「何も着ないで寝る人がいるのをご存じ？」というセリフに符合する。
「ローマの休日」が公開された1953年、ヘプバーンより3歳年上のモンローは「ナイアガラ」「紳士は金髪がお好き」「百万長者と結婚する方法」の3作に主演しており、押しも押されもせぬハリウッドのトップスターの座にあった。
一方、当時２４歳のヘプバーンはアメリカ映画第一作の「ローマの休日」で、モンローがついに手に入れることが出来なかったアカデミー賞最優秀主演女優賞を受賞し、一気に栄光の座についた。
「ローマの休日」のこのシーンの背後に、オードリー・ヘブバーンとは正反対の個性のマリリン・モンローがいた事は、チョット面白い。

がアン王女の口から発せられた時、そのユーモアに観客の間からは笑い声が起こったのではないかと私は想像する。
私も年寄り扱いされた時には長年このセリフを使っているが、相手は苦笑も含めてだが、まず例外なく笑ってくれる。
そしてそのセリフが「ローマの休日」のヘプバーンに由来することを教えると、相手は何となく私を見直したような、「おぬし、やるな」という表情になり、私はしてやったりということになる。

１１月３日（祝）
全日本マスターズ陸上選手権の3000ｍ競歩に出場する妻の付き添いで福岡に行ってきた。
３０００ｍ以上の長距離種目は今年は分離開催となってこの日に行われた。
妻は２０分１９秒３３の記録で去年に続いて年齢別の一位になった。
去年のタイムを９秒上回った。
これで我々夫婦の今年の陸上シーズンは終わった。
全日本マスターズ陸上選手権の3000ｍ競歩に出場する妻の付き添いで福岡に行ってきた。
３０００ｍ以上の長距離種目は今年は分離開催となってこの日に行われた。
妻は２０分１９秒３３の記録で去年に続いて年齢別の一位になった。
去年のタイムを９秒上回った。
これで我々夫婦の今年の陸上シーズンは終わった。

3000ｍ競歩に出場する妻の付き添いで私も博多に行く。
今日はそれに向けて、広島総合グランドのサブトラックで最後のタイムトライアル。
本番と同じ距離の３０００mで実施。
雲一つない快晴で、かつサブグランドは平日とあって誰もおらず貸し切り状態。
二週間前のここでのタイムトライアルは飛ばしすぎてベントニー（着地時に膝が曲がる歩形違反）になり、タイムは上々だったものの失敗だった。
先週の二度目のタイムトライアルは歩形を意識しすぎて２１分３０秒とタイムがかかりすぎ。
今日は歩形を意識しつつ前半から突っ込んで１９分１９秒とタイムは上々。しかし2000ｍ以降歩形違反ぎりぎりのフォームになった。本番ではここを気をつけなければならない。
妻は二年前の全日本マスターズではゴール直前に三枚目の歩形違反カードを出され失格。
去年の京都での全日本では一枚もカードを出されず、年齢別で優勝した。

全日本マスターズ陸上選手権が福岡県の博多の森陸上競技場で開催された。
私の成績は以下の通り。
・円盤投げ（７０〜７４歳の部）
2位（33ｍ30）
・砲丸投げ（７０〜７４歳の部）
優勝（11ｍ20）
円盤投げは３年連続の2位、砲丸投げは３年連続の優勝だった。
いずれも接戦の末の２位、優勝で勝負としては競技をしていて面白かった。
４日の午後、試合が終わっていた私は現場にいなかったのだが、大雨と共に競技場のすぐそばにすさまじい落雷があり、午後の競技はすべて中止となった。
この試合で私の今シーズンは終わったが、１１月３日には全日本マスターズ陸上選手権の長距離部門がまた博多の森陸上競技場で開催される。
3000ｍ競歩に出場する妻の付き添いでまた博多に行く。

9月9日（火）
９月に入り、油照りの日々だった８月とはうって変わって雨の多い広島。
今日もどんよりした雲が空を覆っていたが、１０時を過ぎたころから青空がのぞいてきた。
草刈りの業者が入った様で、伸びていた夏草がきれいに刈り込まれており、投げた円盤が草に隠れてしまわなくなり、大いに助かる。
砲丸（4Ｋ）はいろいろフォームを工夫して投げてはみるもののパッとせず。
10ｍ70が今日のベスト。
突き出しの際右ひじが下がっているのが砲丸に力が加わらない理由ではないかと家に帰ってから気がつく。
６０代の半ばには4Ｋの砲丸を１４ｍ以上投げていたHさん。
７５歳になった先日の試合では９ｍに少し届かなかった。
１０年間で5ｍ以上記録が落ちてしまっているのは残念だ。
彼はこんなもんじゃないと思いたい。
６０代の頃は全日本マスターズで顔を合わせたが、コロナのため全日本が中止になった５年前からは会っていない。
少し年下の私とは競技クラスが違うが、今年は全日本マスターズ（福岡）で会えればいいのだが。
円盤（1Ｋ）は炎天下の練習になり、太陽はやる気いっぱいでガンガン私を照らし、投げているうちに頭がくらくらしてくる。

時々細かな雨が落ちてくる曇り空だったが、時間の経過とともに青空が広がり、強い陽ざしが降り注ぐ。
９月２１日（日）に県北の庄原で行われる広島県マスターズ記録会まであと3週間。
今度の試合は妻も円盤投げに出場するので、先日妻の運転で下見に行ってきた。
広島市内の私の自宅からノンストップで２時間１０分でスタジアムに着いた。
当日は朝８時には会場に着いておきたいので、２１日は５時半出発だ。
今日の投擲練習。
砲丸投げ（4K）は不調。
最後になって腰と肩の遠心力が何とかかみ合って、やっと10ｍ60。
これではあと1か月後に迫った全日本マスターズ選手権は心もとない。
円盤投げ（1K）は34mオーバーが4本でまずまず。
全日本までには37ｍを投げておきたい。
夏休みが終わり、学校が始まったので男の子たちの姿はなく、広大な河川敷は私のひとり占め。

約一か月ぶりの河川敷での投擲練習。
夏休み中とあって橋の下の、日陰になっている広いスペースにはテニスの壁打ちをする人、サッカーボールをける男の子、スケボーをする少年、ラクロスの練習をする女の子。
私はそこを避けて、やむをえずカンカン照りの太陽の下で投擲練習
砲丸（4K）は一ケ月も投げなかったのでいわゆる「投げ筋」がガタ落ち。
10ｍ50飛ぶのがやっとのありさま。
全日本マスターズ選手権まであと一か月半。
せめて１１ｍ５０までは練習で投げられるように戻さなくては。
円盤（1Ｋ）は砲丸ほどの落ち込みはなし。
35ｍが今日のベスト。
両肩を前方にはじき出す様に振り、右肩をグッと突っ込むようにして投げれば、まず35ｍは飛ぶようになってきた。
円盤も37ｍまでは投げて全日本に挑みたい。
３時間の練習を終えて、橋の下の川岸に座って一休み。
壊れたカヌーが一艘、河岸に打ち捨てられている。
ここは爽やかな川風が吹き過ぎる。
河川敷にはもうとんぼが飛び交い始めている。

朝７時、久しぶりにホームグランドの河川敷にやって来た。
広大な河川敷いっぱいに繁茂していた雑草が、業者が入ったのだろう、短く刈り取られていて清々しい。
今日から９月５,６日に島根県出雲で開催される中国マスターズ陸上選手権に向けて再スタートだ。
砲丸は５kを使用する。
試合で投げるのは4ｋなので、１０日前の広島マスターズまでは４ｋの砲丸で投擲練習を続けてきた。
しかしその結果、腕が4ｋ仕様のパワーになってしまい、「これではまずい」と感じたので、試合よりも重い5ｋの砲丸で練習することに考えを改めた。
久しぶりに投げる５ｋの砲丸の重い事。
腕がその重さに完全に負けている。
９ｍ４０が今日のベスト。
我ながら筋力の低下していることにあきれる。
円盤（1Ｋ）は３５ｍ８0が今日のベスト。
下半身と上半身の遠心力のタイミングがはまるようになってきて、２回に一回は35ｍが投げられるようになってきた。
願わくは40ｍを投げたい。
５月の岡山マスターズ選手権で久しぶりにF選手と会う。
3歳年下の彼は今年から私と同じクラスのＭ７０（70〜７４歳）部門になる。
円盤投げにおいて５０代から６０代にかけて彼は国内に敵なしの圧倒的な選手だった。その彼が競技会から急に姿を消してしまい、随分と寂しい思いをしたものだ。
今年の１０月の全日本マスターズ選手権では彼と久しぶりに競えるのが今から楽しみだ。
夏を思わせる日差しの下で３時間の練習を終えて、日陰になっている橋の下の川岸に座って、しばらく過ごす。
汗だくになった体に川風がいい気持ちだ。
そうしていると６０年近く前の高校時代の陸上部の夏の練習が決まってよみがえってくる。
人っ子一人いない河川敷。
炎天下での練習の後の、この川のほとりでのひと時が、毎年の私の夏のこたえられない至福の瞬間だ。

“The National Weather Service is predicting close to hurricane-force level winds and so we're making urgent preparations. My top priority and the priority of everyone else is to do everything we can to protect lives.”
Santa Ana winds are common in Southern California during cooler months. But the fear is their speeds and the dry air could make the already dangerous situation even worse. Weather officials forecast strong winds will stick around through Wednesday.
Authorities are also keeping an eye out for those looking to take advantage of the situation. Dozens of people have reportedly been arrested, including for looting.
Officials say the disaster has killed at least 24 people and the number of buildings damaged or destroyed exceeds 12,000.

6月8日（日）
１７回目の広島県マスターズ陸上選手権。
妻と一緒に尾道に行ってきた。
妻は本職の競歩ではなく、今回は円盤投げに出場した。
心配された雨も途中何度か通り雨が何度かあったもののひどい降りにはならなくて済んだのは幸運だった。
競技場に着いて、久しぶりに会う選手たちと「やあやあ」と旧交を温めあう。
砲丸投げ（4K）から私の試合は始まった。
７０歳代の部（70〜７４歳）、10ｍ73で1位。
最悪だった3週間前の岡山マスターズよりはよかったものの、フォームはバラバラ。
納得いかず。
一緒に競技した兵庫のFさんはこの後、車を飛ばして午後には屋島で行われる香川県マスターズ選手権のやり投げに出場するとのこと。
飲み屋の「はしご酒」は何度も経験があるが、陸上競技の「はしご試合」はいまだかつて聞いたことがない。
Fさんは４７都道府県のマスターズ陸上選手権に出場すべく、ほとんど毎週日本各地を飛び回っている。

７０歳代の部（70〜７４歳）、33ｍ99で、３年前に出した私の記録を１４センチ更新しての大会新記録で一位。
しかし公式練習では36ｍを越えていたので、やや残念。

試合の後の恒例行事として、広島駅ビルで焼き鳥と洋風総菜とケーキを購入。
帰宅後、ビールとワインで妻とお互いの優勝を祝して打ち上げ宴会。
しこたま飲んで食べて、酔っぱらって寝る。

5月１７日（土）の岡山県マスターズは散々の出来だった。
その時の不調からは幾分立ち直っては来た。
ずっと5ｋの砲丸で投擲練習をしてきたが、実際に試合で投げる4ｋで練習することに切り替えた。
７３歳の年齢に５ｋの砲丸は練習後のダメージが大きくなってきたからだ。
今日は１１ｍ１５がベスト。
腰の遠心力がうまく使えた時は力を入れなくても11ｍは出る。
しかしこの腰が安定しないから困るのだ。
言うは易し、行うは難し。
再現力の低さが長年の私の課題。
円盤（1Ｋ）は34ｍ50が今日のベスト。
河川敷は雑草が繁茂し、場所によっては１ｍを越えて群生している。
そこに投げた砲丸がしばしば転げ込んでいくから探すのが厄介だ。
伸びた雑草を足でなぎ倒しながら探すのだが、場合によっては１０分近くも見つからないことがある。
虫には刺されるわ、鋭い葉で指は切れるは。
昔はこの河川敷には蛇が結構生息し、紛れ込んだ砲丸を探すときにはおっかなびっくりでやったものだが、ここ数年、蛇はぴたりと姿を消した.。
それは有難いことだが、どうしたことだろうか？
心なしかこの原っぱの蝶やとんぼの数も少なくなった気がする。
レイチェル・カールソンの「沈黙の春」は私のホームグランドの河川敷にも忍び寄ってきているのか？

The craftsmanship has evolved according to the natural characteristics of individual regions and has been passed down through generations. The drinks have long been used in traditional rituals and festivals and have served an essential role in Japanese culture.
The cultural agency says the UNESCO committee is expected to make the listing official at a meeting in December in Paraguay.

マスターズ陸上ブログ ２０２５年 その8
5月５日（月）
今年の初戦である福岡県マスターズ陸上選手権に行ってきた。
６時５３分、広島始発の新幹線で博多に向かう。
窓外は清々しい快晴だ。
車中で２,３０分眠ったろうか、自分のいびきで目が覚める。
周りの席に人がいなくてよかった。
連休中にもかかわらず車内がすいているのは、この列車が広島発博多行きのせいだ。
電車が小倉を過ぎて間もなく、ゆうゆうたる清流が目に入る。
遠賀川だ。
九州で唯一、鮭が遡上する川だそうだが、この清流ではさもありなんと思う。
この川では鮭が泳ぎたくなるのもうなずける。
博多駅からは地下鉄で福岡空港駅に。
そこからタクシーで博多の森陸上競技場に９時到着。
広島の自宅を出てから車→新幹線→地下鉄→タクシーの３時間。
帰りはこの逆の3時間かと思うと、試合を前にして早くもぐったりする。
試合結果
・砲丸投げ（７０歳代の部 ４キロ） １位 11ｍ19
・円盤投げ（７０歳代の部 1キロ） １位 33ｍ96
記録的にはもう少し欲しかった。
一投ごとにばらつきの多い試合だったが、練習では感じられない気づきがあったのは収穫だった。
二週間後にある岡山マスターズまでに修正すべし。
帰りの博多駅はゴールデンウイークの最中とあって猛烈な混雑だった。
ボロ雑巾のようにへとへとになって自宅に帰りつく。
今回は試合に出なかった妻とビールを飲み、その後気絶状態で眠りに落ちた。

記録的にはもう少し欲しかった。
一投ごとにばらつきの多い試合だったが、練習では感じられない気づきがあったのは収穫だった。
二週間後にある岡山マスターズまでに修正すべし。
帰りの博多駅はゴールデンウイークの最中とあって猛烈な混雑だった。
ボロ雑巾のようにへとへとになって自宅に帰りつく。
今回は試合に出なかった妻とビールを飲み、その後気絶状態で眠りに落ちた。

山頭火のおいしい日記 その30
山頭火、鯖を食べる
山頭火が鰯好きであったことは彼の日記でも、句でも明らかだが、同じ青魚の鯖も好きだった。
今回は山頭火の鯖の食べっぷりを見てみよう。
彼の日記にこうある。
・「生きのよい鯖が一尾八銭だった、片身は刺身、片身は塩焼にして食べた、おいしかった、焼酎一合十一銭、水を倍加して飲んだがうまくなかった」

・「帰途、魚市場の前を通りかかって、鯖を一尾買うて戻った（私が生魚を買ったのは、今年はこれが最初ではないか知ら）（略）鯖の刺身でビール（このビールは昨夜T子さんが持ってきてくれたその一本だ）、ゼイタクだな」

上記の日記から山頭火の鯖の食べ方を順に並べると次の通り。
刺身、塩焼、刺身、さしみ、焼鯖、鯖の酢漬。
「鯖の酢漬」とはしめ鯖と考えておこう。
鯖の塩焼き、しめ鯖は我が家の食卓では登板回数の多いおかずであり、居酒屋においては品書きにはまず欠かせない一品だろう。
しかし鯖の刺身は私に限っては少なくともこの10年間は口にした記憶がない。
サバを生食する上でのリスクとなるのがアニサキス。
品物の流通のスムーズさも冷蔵技術も現代とは雲泥の差があった昭和10年当時だが、鯖の刺身を好んでいた山頭火の日記のどこを見ても鯖にあたった様子はない。
何と言っても彼は
「腐った物をたべてもあたらない、ここまでくるとりっぱにルンペンの尊さを持っている」
「饐えた御飯を食べたが何ともなかった、私もまだ乞食旅行が出来る」
こう日記に書いているくらいの鋼鉄の胃袋の持ち主なので、やわな胃袋の私はやはり彼の真似をするのはやめておくか。
山頭火は瀬戸内海側の町の生まれだが、同じ山口県でも日本海に面する城下町萩では、昔は秋になると玉江浦から「さば買やらんか」と言いながら、頭に「かねり」というたらいを乗せて、女衆が秋サバを売りに来た。萩の人は生きのよい鯖は刺身や湯引きにし、さしみには萩名産のだいだい酢をたっぷりと振りかけて食べたそうな。
次に鯖一尾の値段を見てみよう。
「生きのよい鯖が一尾八銭」「鯖一尾十銭」「鯖一尾十五銭」と昭和７年、１０年、１４年と徐々にその値段が上がっている。時代はそれぞれ満州事変が起こり（昭和６年）、ワシントン軍縮条約破棄（昭和９年）、国家総動員法交付（昭和１３年）と日本が戦時色を色濃くしていった時代。物価も徐々に上がっていったことが見てとれる。
ある資料によると昭和１1年における東京都心でのカレーライス一杯の値段は15〜２０銭。
従って昭和１０年当時、ごく大雑把に言ってカレーライスの価格は鯖一尾の１,５倍と言えるだろう。
現在、スーパーで売られている鯖は安い時であれば４００円、一方、東京でカレーを食べれば１，０００円と言うことだろうか。
とすれば今はカレーライスの価格は鯖の2，5倍。
もし山頭火が今も生きていて鯖とカレーのどちらかを選べと言われれば、値段からしても一も二もなく鯖だろう。
なにせ鯖は酒の肴として刺身、塩焼、しめ鯖と三度も楽しめるのだから。
尚、鯖を煮つけや味噌煮で食べた記述は日記にない。
彼の好みではなかったのか、それとも魚はまずは刺身、そうでなければ焼くというのが山頭火の基本方針だったのか。

山頭火のおいしい日記 その29
山頭火、支那料理を食べる
現代では中華料理のほうが通りがいい支那料理。
山頭火のイメージとはそぐわないかもしれない食べ物だが、今回はその支那料理の食べっぷりを見てみよう。
昭和9年3月24日の彼の日記に支那料理が登場する。
・「夕方から、澄太君夫妻と共に黙壺居の客となる、みんないっしょに支那料理をよばれる、うまかった、鶩の丸煮、鯉の丸煮、等、等、等（わざわざ支那料理人をよんで、家族一同食べたのは嬉しい）」
この日、山頭火は広島駅から徒歩で３０分程の距離にある牛田にいる。
広島市牛田は昭和8年9月15日に初めてその地を踏んで以来、生涯に9度にわたって訪れた土地である。
しばしば牛田を訪れたのは、ここに彼の俳句の同人であり、生前はほぼ無名であった山頭火をその死後、彼の全集の発行に尽力し、山頭火を世に知らしめた大山澄太が住んでいたからだ。
さて、その澄太君夫妻と共に黙壺君の家で供された支那料理は「鶩の丸煮、鯉の丸煮、等、等、等」。
私とすれば「等、等、等」の三品が大いに気になるところだが、まずは「鶩の丸煮」から。
私は山頭火の言うこの「アヒルの丸煮」は「ガチョウの煮込み」の事ではないかと考えている。
アヒルは野生のマガモを家禽化したものであり、ガチョウは野生のガンを家禽化したものである。
「ガチョウの煮込み」は半世紀以上前の私の子供時代に、大人たちの会話の中で何度か耳にした言葉だが、私は口にしたことはなく、近年耳にする事さえなくなった料理だ。
これは中国広東省東部の潮州料理の名物で鹵水鵝片(ガチョウの醤油漢方煮込み)のことで、酸っぱい米醋（マイチョウ）をつけて食べる、潮州料理の前菜ではまず第一に挙げられる料理だそうな。
「わざわざ支那料理人をよんで」とあるが、この出張料理人はひょっとすると広東省出身の中国人であったのかと想像したくなる。
次は「鯉の丸煮」。
これは「鯉の丸揚げ甘酢あんかけ」だろうと思うが、これはかつて支那料理での宴席における主役だったと聞く。
こちらも今では町の中華料理屋のメニューで見ることはめったにない。
一度ある店のメニューの欄外にこの「糖酢鯉魚」（鯉の丸揚げ甘酢餡掛け）が載っていたが、事前の注文が必要で、かつ値段は時価とあった。
これも私の舌に乗ったことは一度もない、私にとっては幻の料理だ。
この晩、山頭火は鹵水鵝片(ガチョウの醤油漢方煮込み)の前菜でスタートし、「糖酢鯉魚」（鯉の丸揚げ甘酢餡掛け）に至る豪勢な支那料理の宴会に連なったわけだ。
ありとあらゆる食べ物を俳句にしている山頭火だが、この晩餐の料理も俳句に詠んで欲しかった。

マスターズ陸上ブログ ２０２５年 その7
4月17日（木）
朝７時半、いつものホームグランドの河川敷に自転車で到着。
快晴。
前回の投擲練習でアキレス腱をひどく痛めたため、９日ぶりの投擲練習。
河川敷の緑はぐっと濃さを増している。
草に降りた無数の露が朝日を浴びて光っている。
砲丸投げ（5K）から練習開始。
上半身に頼って投げているので距離が出ない。
下半身の遠心力で投げるのが私の求めている投擲なのだが、再現が出来んのう。
9ｍ70が今日のベスト。
試合も間近に迫って来たし、そろそろ10ｍは当たり前に超えて欲しいのだけれど。
円盤投げ（1Ｋ）は36ｍが出た。
２０２０年〜２０２４年には一度も飛ばなかった距離まで円盤が飛んで行った。
久しぶりの36ｍのアーチを見るのは爽快だった。
下半身の遠心力、左腕の絞り、右肩の突込みのタイミングが合って来た。
しかしデジカメで撮影した動画を見ると、肩の回転と右腕の振り切りがまだまだ不十分。
この点が修正できると今年の目標である４０ｍも投げられるのではないかという感触を得た。
途中からまた痛み始めたアキレス腱も何とかひどいことにならずに済んだ。
原っぱでは草ひばりが空の高みで鳴き続ける。
河岸の藪では鶯のさえずり。
タチツボスミレ、ナズナ、ハハコグサ、キツネアザミ、春爛漫だ。
この原っぱの春の王様である菜の花も咲き始めた。

山頭火のおいしい日記 その28
山頭火、酒語録
歌人で酒飲みといえばまず名前が挙がるのが若山牧水。
・白玉の歯にしみとほる秋の夜の酒は静かに飲むべかりけり
秋、酒場や酒席でこの歌をつぶやく声を今日でも耳にすることがある。
俳句の世界でそれは誰かといえば牧水より三歳年上の種田山頭火だろう。
山頭火の酒の代表句といえばこの句。
・ほろほろ酔うて木の葉ふる
今回は酒に関する彼の言葉とそのすさまじい酔態をその日記に年代を追ってみてみよう。
・「酒はつつしんでおりますからご安心ください、先日暫らく断酒しようと思って三日ばかりやめていましたら、身心がぼんやりして、却っていけなくなりました、何しろ何十年来の（或は久遠劫来の）薫習で、アルコールが骨髄にまでしみこんでいるのだから、仕方ありませんね」

今回は、脱炭素社会の実現に向けて、日本政府がペロブスカイト太陽電池を普及させるとする目標を定めたという2024年11月26日のニュース。

Japan's government has set a goal of stepping up the use of perovskite solar cells to realize a carbon-free society. Officials at the industry ministry have decided to try to bring down the cost of generating power from the next-generation cells to levels equivalent to that of conventional solar technology. The government envisions that the country will generate 20 gigawatts of electricity from the cells by 2040. That's equivalent to the output of 20 nuclear power plants. It plans to position the cells as a pillar of renewable energy sources by fiscal 2040. Perovskite solar cells are thin, light, and flexible. Their low profile makes them well-suited for Japan, where empty land and open spaces are limited. For example, they can be installed on building walls. China and countries in Europe have been trying to mass-produce such cells. The government says it will support R&D by Japanese manufacturers.

マスターズ陸上ブログ ２０２５年 その6
4月10日（木）
８日の火曜日。
朝７時半、いつものホームグランドの河川敷に自転車で到着。
この日も雲一つない快晴。
スケボーをしている少年が一人、サッカーをしている高校生と思われる少年が四人。
新学期が始まっているだろうに、君たちはここで何をしているのだ。
砲丸投げ（5K）から練習開始。
相変わらず投げが安定しない。
家に帰ってデジカメで撮った動画を見ると、構えの段階で体が開き過ぎていることが判明。
これでは飛ばないはずだと納得。
９m８０がこの日のベスト。
円盤投げ（1Ｋ）は立ち投げで33ｍまで飛んだ。
これは私の円盤が一番飛んでいた６年前と同じ距離。
ターンして投げると練習では39ｍ飛んでいたころだ。
さては全盛期に戻ったかと大いに期待してターンで投げ始めて5本目。
円盤を振り切ったとたんに、ずっと痛めていた右アキレス腱に激痛が走った。
昨日、元プロレスラーの治療院に行って治療を受けて、今日は痛みはほぼなくなり歩けるようになりはしたが、ふくらはぎの真ん中あたりはこぶのようになって腫れている。
これで投擲練習は二週間は休みだ。
トホホである。
調子がいいのに怪我で練習ができないのは実にもどかしい。
私の4月は大凶だからと聞いていたが、これがそうなのか。
初戦の福岡マスターズまではあと4週間ほど。
