Last year, the Ito Fishery Union held a press conference declaring its intention to resume dolphin drive hunts for the first time in 15 years, for the purpose of selling live dolphins to aquariums and other entertainment facilities. However, last year the hunting season ended without any dolphins actually being captured.
The season for dolphin drive hunting as permitted by the Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture was from October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.
Apparently, the reason that there were no dolphins captured during that season was that hunters could not locate any dolphin pods.
During the hunting season, LIA conducted a survey in Futo in collaboration with the Dolphin Project.
What we learned from the survey was that 12 “chanchan (bangers)” tools used to capture dolphins had been prepared by fishermen at the Futo Fishing Port; however, no pens in which to keep dolphins
temporarily after being caught had been arranged. In addition, no other specific preparations had been made for dolphins after capture.
Prior to last year, the fishery union had not hunted dolphins for 15 years; despite this fact, no bankruptcy due to financial difficulties occurred. Therefore, it is reasonable to think that the purpose of
resuming dolphin hunts by the Futo fishery union is simply to increase earnings.
Humans have killed fish/shellfish for consumption for many years, and are now also trying to capture dolphins to use them as tools for making money.
Humans capture and sell dolphins for the "aquarium slave business."
Dolphins are tricked into being captured, and worked by slave drivers at aquariums until they die.
Our dream, from the bottom of our hearts, is that the capture of dolphins will be ended for good!
