The newsletters from 2008 talking about QA activities are:
http://www.plio.it/node/29
http://www.plio.it/node/30
http://www.plio.it/node/32
http://www.plio.it/node/40
generally in the release announcements (like "OpenOffice.org 2.4.2 in
italiano") or in test announcements ("Test QA").

It wasn't issued due to festivities. The January 2009 issue is now on
our website.

Around 20 in the group. Every time, 10-15 of them are active in the
Release Candidate phase.
Great. Publishing a news letter is also very nice.
10-15 is quite large number in release phase!
Our (the Italian QA team's) reports are already published, in Italian,
In brief, in 2008 we coordinated QA on all Italian OpenOffice.org
releases and in most cases managed to distribute them on the same day
the English versions were announced. Our testers are growing in number
and expertise and this permits more thorough testing and quick reactions
Great report! They published in the same day - it is very important and very difficult.
Unfortunately their report is written in Italian, so I cannot
read at all :( I assume other communities report in their
native lang :)

Since we don't have a flash player from ADOBE, and we use Linux version via www/nspluginwrapper, and/or www/linuxpluginwrapper. The former is most popular, as it is stabler (still unstable) and easier to install.

Both plugin wrapper uses Linux binary compatibility features, and both are very unstable.
Yesterday I tried gnash a free flash movie player, and works very fine. I can play youtube, NICONICO, and other sites uses flash.
Lesser (or no) freeze.
Only issue is the some Japanese are not displayed correctly, just print squares. How I can send a feed back? :)
and my presentation is here
Khirano-san did a presentation he introduced one of the largest deployment, Aizuwakamatsu City etc (same OOoCon2008 Beijing).

I did also a presentation to Motojima Yasushi-san of 情報政策課副主幹(係長級), Aizuwakamatu city, privately. He also did a presentation. What impressed me a lot is that he regards deployment of OpenOffice.org is not only for cut down the cost, but also for
common wealth of humanity. Great.

I'd like to thanks for all the participants and staffs of OSC2009 sendai, and Tohoku OSS investigator group (東北OSS利活用検討会) for funding.

The Open Source Conference(s) are one of the biggest events in Japan; and Miyahara-san is the conductor. He won "IPA Japan OSS contributor award" for his initiation, activity towards the Open Source Conference in 2008. The Open Source Conferences are usually held all over Japan, and of course, most active place is Tokyo.
Hi Maho and Thorsten,

In 2008, mainly, the following activity was done:

1. TCM testing
We participated in l10n24/l10n27/l10n29 testing
We translated all the testcases in TCM into Chinese

2. Issue handling
We have filed more than 300 valid issues last year, and paticipate in the confirmation of the unconfirmed issues. We went through more than 400 issues, more than 300 of them are confirmed, duplicated or provided with useful information. And we have verified and closed about 100 issues.

QA team of RF have executed test against OOo3.0, and have found bugs, now we are submitting these bugs into issuetracker. We chose the issues result in crash as the first step. By now, we have filed 74 crash issues against OOo3.0. Beside this, we have filed about 60 non-crash issues of the OOo3.0.

In the year 2009, We will continue doing the work mentioned above. And we will participate more in VCLTestTool, include upload test result to QUASTe, find issues and try to fix issues in srcipts. We are working harder for this.

Let's make 2009 a harvest year for all.

Best Regards,
Lihua

Very well done, and thanks for your report!
I'm a post doc at RIKEN. Not many know about RIKEN, so I'd like to explain a bit. RIKEN was established in 1917 and famous laboratory in Japan. Prof. Nishina, Prof. Yukawa and Prof. Tomonaga were also there. We have very large particle accelerator before the world war II, conducted by Prof. Nishina. Prof. Yukawa and Tomonaga were awarded Nobel prize (physics).

My research interest is the density matrix theory, and my motivation is solving Schroedinger equation, which is the fundamental equation of Chemistry. This is a partial differential equation of the second order. It is known that we can formulate as Semidefinite programming, and we solved exactly for the first time!.

It is very difficult to solve the semidefinite programming exacltly and efficiently, and lot of unknowns are there due to inaccuracy of the results.

In 2006 or so I started to develop the SDPA-GMP. Some problems of semidefinite programing are very difficult due to inaccuracy of "double". We need more significant digits, say 100, where double has only 16. GMP is one of the fastest implementation of multiple precision arithmetic library, and I use it to implement some BLAS/LAPACK codes. This is almost dumb
translation of BLAS/LAPACK code to the GMP, and very slow (usually
500 times slower than double). There are two papers related to SDPA-GMP...Variational calculation of second-order reduced density matrices by strong N-representability conditions and an accurate semidefinite programming solver
and Strange Behaviors of Interior-point Methods for Solving Semidefinite Programming Problems in Polynomial Optimization (preprint)

I have been providing MacOSX packages over three years. I'm trying
to provid packages almost every milestone, every languages, and
both PowerPC and Intel architecture. Some of my intentions are
helping the QA process and release process.

One of the major problem of providing packages for PPC was
random crash while building. There are some some issues like:
#i87969#, MacOSX : regcomp fails at instsetoo_native on PPC
#i77664#, MacOSX : build fails at i18npool/source/localedata/data conditionally
.

Usually one hour later after I begin the build, #i77664# hits seriously.
It is not a reproducible error, and sometimes the build passes
i18npool module without error. In my experience, defragmentation of
HFS+ partition or adding -O0 -g seems to reduce the errors, but
not completely.

More serious one is #i87969#. The build randomely crashes, espcially
the numbers of packages increases, crash also increases.
More precisely, OOO300 series has less #i87969# hits, Tiger
has less, Panther has more crashes (That's why I switched to Tiger even
for 2.x series). Also it seemed that if the number of
files at solver increases, hit also increases (see my comment in #i87969#).
Recently, after DEV300_m33, I couldn't provide the packages for PPC
anymore.

OpenOffice.org community noticed that I stopped providing PPC.
Some asked directly, and some asked in the mailing list.
No I'm not a lazy :) but regcomp issues is very hard for me to solve.
So - I asked OpenOffice.org community for the help!
http://blog.livedoor.jp/maho_nakata/archives/51073896.html
I prepared G5 Mac access for developers, with build script, etc.

Stephan Bergmann, who is a sophisticated programmer in SUN Hamburg
solved the problem!
http://porting.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=mac&msgNo=7522
The root cause of the problem was GCC--UNO bridge code. see
#i96647# for details...

I provided DEV300_m33, 34, 35 and 36 applying his patch
no regcomp errors!!!

http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=13007
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=13010
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=13012
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=13018
Now build is suprisingly smooth, no irritating i18npool breakage,
etc. I'm sooo excited.

I also suspect there are some random and unreproducible error
in PPC Mac version of OOo, and hope they're gone.

Thanks again, Stephan Bergmann! You are our hero.
