先に名の出る方が「老じゃ」
欧米人と接するとき、introduction（紹介）をなすには注意すべきことが多く、特に女性が入っているときの紹介には充分な気遣いが必要であろう。一般的な原則として次の例文をmemorizeしておくとよろしい。
Mr. Rogers, this is Mr. Young.
つまり「先に名の出る人が老じゃ」と覚えておく。常に年長の人、偉い人、女性を先立てるのである。IntroductionについてはProf. Vernon Brownが以下の如く書いて下さっている。
1) When introducing a man and a woman, the woman’s name comes first.
2) When introducing a man and a woman, the woman’s name comes first.
3) In introducing people of the same sex, when one is considerably older, the older person’s name comes first.
4 )When introducing people of the same sex and about the same age, either name can come first. But if one is a guest, a person of high position, or a famous or highly respected person, this person’s name generally comes first.
