  The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA),
says it is looking into the issues which led to the long delays
experienced by passengers, at the Sangster International
Airport in Montego Bay, St. James on the weekend.

Dozens of passengers had to wait in long lines to be processed by
immigration officers.

The immigration officers are reportedly on go-slow to register
their dissatisfaction with the agency.

The officers are reportedly upset about the disparity in the
allowances and benefits they receive compared with their
colleagues in Kingston.


  The $50-million target set by the organisers of the 2012
edition of the PanCaribbean Sigma Corporate Run might
have been considered a difficult task. However, determined
to meet the target,
more than 70 corporate companies, jointly exceeding
16,000 in participating employees, turned out Sunday for the
14th staging of the event aimed at pulling in the
much-needed funds.

The event saw the participants making their way from the
PanCaribbean head office on Knutsford Boulevard at exactly
7:30 a.m., then on to Waterloo Road.
The runners then made their way on to West Kings House Road
before turning on to Constant Spring Road. They came to a stop
at Emancipation Park.
 

At the end of the 5.6K run, the organisers announced that they had
managed to raise, so far, more than $33 million, which is to go
towards Chain of Hope Jamaica's commitment to assist the cardiac
programme at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

  OLYMPIC gold medallist and world sprint champion Usain Bolt is
scheduled to participate in this year's PanCaribbean Sigma Corporate
Run scheduled for this Sunday in Kingston.

The 100m and 200m world record holder, who is a patron of the event,
is expected to walk the distance in order not to risk the possibility of
injury.

More than 15,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants have been
registered for the event, the proceeds from which will go to the Chain of
Hope Jamaica in support of the Bustamante Hospital for Children Cardiac
Programme.

The race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am at the PanCaribbean Building
on Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston. From there, participants will turn
left on to Trafalgar Road to Waterloo Road, left on West King's House
Road, left  on Constant Spring Road, left on to Suthermere Road,
right on to Parish Place, left on to Hope Road, right on Winchester Road,
right on Ruthven Road, left on Half-Way-Tree Road,
and left on to Emancipation Park on Oxford Road for the finish.

   After nine months with no guests on property, the 250-room
Braco hotel, owned by the National Insurance Fund (NIF),
reopened this week.

NIF senior director for investments Audrey Deer-Williams said Wednesday
that a short-term lease contract was signed in the first week of February
with Blue Diamond,the hotel-operating arm of Sun Wing of Canada, to end
in May of this year.
 

The property is operating as Braco Beach Resort & Spa.
The terms of the lease agreement were not disclosed.

  Appleton Estate 21-year-old Jamaica Rum has received
a package upgrade in keeping with its luxury positioning.

Appleton Estate 21-year-old Jamaica Rum is a once-a-year limited
release that will be sold on an allocation basis, and each bottle
will be numbered on the foot label.

Each bottle also comes with a certificate of ageing signed by
master blender Joy Spence to certify that each of the rums that
make up the blend have been aged for a minimum of 21 years
in oak barrels.
 

The new package will be available in Jamaica as of mid-February.

$60 million to solve a problem which would have been avoided
