Since the ASAHI Shimbun newspaper article reporting about the political interference on NHK (an article on January 12, 2005) and the brave internal disclosure by Mr. Satoru Nagai (a chief producer of NHK) about the fact of the interference by two politicians on the very next day (at the press conference on January 13, 2005), the political pressure on the NHK TV program (aired on January 30, 2001) on the Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal has become a huge controversial issue. At the same time, some media and people who even didn’t see the Tribunal is disseminating information which defame the Tribunal as well as VAWW-NET Japan (one of the organizers for the Tribunal). We believe that the root of the problems concerning the political interference is not only on the media but also on the “comfort women” issues.
In order to explain for the questions such as “what the Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal is all about?” “How and to what extent the NHK program distort the fact?” “Why such distortion happened?” etc., we will have an urgent press conference.
